Autumn Winter 2019 Trends – The New Grunge

If like me you spent the 90’s listening to Nirvana whilst wearing a lot of black eyeliner and baggy jumpers with holes in the sleeves for your thumbs, then you are going to be very pleased with the New Grunge trend for Autumn / Winter 2019.

This trend brings back so many happy memories for me. I was a wild child, pale skinned and panda eyed. All I cared about was boys with piercings and music you could mosh to. I used my style as a rebellion, and an expression of the crazy emotional rollercoaster that was my teenage years.

This is all very well when you’re 17 and intent on annoying your parents as much as possible (god help me when my two are teenagers I am in big trouble) but how do you rock this look when it’s 2019 and somehow you are in your mid-thirties with a proper job?

Have no fear you don’t need to go the full Courtney Love. It’s totally fine to just borrow the parts of this look that you like and make them work with your own style. Some black nail varnish, an oversized ripped denim jacket, a bit of tartan (it needs to be the right kind of tartan think Punk not Pringle) or simply a pair of kick ass combat boots.

This doesn’t mean a whole new wardrobe just a more edgy way of wearing it. Most people have a slip dress from the summer, now layer it with a black t-shirt and an oversize cardigan, fishnet tights and your Old Skool Vans. Get your skinny black jeans out from the back of the drawer and add a retro band t-shirt a checked shirt and your old DM’s.

Don’t forget your 90’s make-up, black eyeliner or brown eyeshadow. some dark brown or deep purple lipstick (make sure it’s matte) I got this one from the Body Shop which is perfect, and it’s cruelty free.

Below is a round up of some of my favourite items to get the Grunge look available in the shops now. Click the links underneath to shop.
