All products were gifted to me for review by House of Fraser, all reviews and opinions are my own.
Recently I was asked by House of Fraser to try out some of their Clarins products, obviously I was over the moon about this and said yes immediately. I’m not a beauty blogger but I absolutely love trying out new products and i’m always looking for products that can make me look good without having to spend hours to achieve a result. If like me you are a mum then you will know that we get about 15 minutes to beautify a day if we are lucky and that is usually with a small child attached to one leg!
With Summer approaching (slowly) I have decided to focus my review on four products that I am hoping might be useful to me in the coming months. A body exfoliator, a foot cream, a firming and toning oil and a cult beauty product that I have heard so much about Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.
I’ll start with the Beauty Flash Balm. This is a product I have always wanted to try but I have never been sure if I should spend the money or not because it has such varying reviews. Just google it and you will see one person saying it has changed their life, they can’t leave the house without it, it’s a miracle cream and the next review you read will say that it didn’t do anything and they don’t know what all the fuss is about! It’s very confusing and I don’t want to pay out a lot of money for a product if it isn’t going to work.
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm £32 for 50ml House of Fraser
The blurb says that the Beauty Flash Balm will give you a luminous and youthful glow, that it will smooth out fine lines and tighten your skin making you look younger. I’ve read that there are three different ways to use it so I thought i would try all three. I’ve also read that it’s really important to apply it properly or it won’t work.
Firstly I used it on it’s own. I used a small amount dotted all over my face and then spread over the face in a thin layer – NOT rubbed in. I didn’t feel any tingling or tightening which I have read about in reviews. I would say it definitely gave me a healthy glow but for me it was a bit too shiny, I don’t like looking shiny but I can imagine using this on holiday when you don’t want to wear any make-up but you would like something to give you a little glowy boost.
Secondly I have read that you should apply a thin layer DON’T rub it in and then immediately apply your foundation over the top. This gave me a glowy heathy look but again for me it’s too shiny – like i’ve just run for the bus or something.
Finally you can use this as a face mask by applying a thick layer over the whole face and then leaving it on for 15 minutes, I don’t really have time to sit round in face masks so i decided to put it on before bed and go to sleep with it on. I did this last night and honestly I can’t see any results at all, I have used much better face masks that’s for sure.
So in conclusion the Beauty Flash Balm is not for me, it definitely does give you a healthy glow on its own or mixed with foundation but for me it makes me look to shiny. I would consider taking it on holiday for a healthy no make-up look. I wouldn’t bother with it as a mask.
As I have mentioned above – i’m no beauty expert, I am simply following instructions from reading about the product and giving you my honest opinion, so if you use this product and you love it and you think i’m doing it wrong then please do comment below and let me know.
Moving on to the next product I tested – Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub.
Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub £30 for 200 ml – House of Fraser.
As summer approaches I often get a bit panicky! I am not someone who is naturally comfortable getting my body out. I have always disliked my legs and i’m not keen on the top of my arms. Because I am very pale skinned if I am a bit cold I tend to look a bit purple and my skin goes blotchy and reminds me of corned beef (sounds hot! right?). I don’t really want to fake tan as i’m happy being pale, I just want to be a bit more confident about the skin on my arms and legs.
This Exfoliating Body Scrub uses bamboo powders to gently remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This stimulates cellular renewal improving the appearance and texture of your skin. I’m hoping that regularly using an exfoliator will make my skin look less blotchy and rough and make me feel more comfortable about getting my legs and arms out.
I’ve used this scrub three times over the last week and I am really impressed. I use it in the shower in the morning and focus on the top of my arms and legs and feet. My skin is definitely smoother and I think the colour is more even, it smells really nice and is actually really quick to apply and wash off. I am going to keep using this to try and get my skin smooth and healthy looking for summer. I also recommend it as a product to use to prepare the skin for fake tanning.
Next up Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil.
Clarins Tonic Body Treatment £40 for 100ml House of Fraser.
This is the perfect product to use after the Exfoliating Body Scrub, it uses plant extracts to firm, tone and smooth your skin, perfect for improving the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
I have been using this as soon as I get out of the shower on the top of my arms, legs, bum and stomach -basically all the areas I don’t like! It smells amazing and the smell stays on your skin all day. It feels relaxing and pleasurable to apply. It locks in moisture and absorbs quickly, it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy but instead your skin feels amazing and soft.
Has this made my cellulite disappear over night? No but lets be realistic that is just impossible. It has made my skin feel firmer and look better and generally made me feel happier, more confident and less worried about showing off some skin this summer.
The final product I want to talk about is Clarins Foot Beauty Treatment.
Clarins Foot beauty Treatment £24 for 125ml House of Fraser
Getting my feet ready for Summer is on the agenda, I know any day now I am going to wake up, it will be sandal weather but my feet will be all dry and my toe nails won’t be painted and I will curse myself as I put on my trainers instead. This foot cream is meant to cool and sooth tired sweaty feet and if you use this after exfoliating to remove dry skin this cream is meant to stop the dry skin from coming back.
I really love this cream, I like the smell, they way it makes my feet feel cool and kind of fizzy. It makes them soft and it isn’t greasy. Another bonus of this cream is it contains Myrrh to strengthen your toenails. If like me you have left your old nail varnish from the last day of Summer 2017 on your nails and just let it grow off all Winter and now your toe nails are kind of soft and ill looking then this cream could really come in handy! (Too much info?)
