The back to work wardrobe – returning to work in style.

Recently my friend Zoe asked me to come up with some outfits for her back to work wardrobe after 3 years maternity leave. Zoe is returning to her job in the retail industry where her office dress code is smart casual but she also needs to be smart enough entertain clients at a moments notice. She is a busy mum of three young children so I kept this in mind when I was thinking about her outfits too.

Look 1

This jumpsuit is great when you are a busy mum, just shove it on and head out the door. I also really like that you can dress it up or down with the right accessories. I’ve chosen these block heel shoes because they are elegant but still easy to chase after toddlers in!

Jumpsuit with wrap neckline £59.99 Mango, Fringe earrings £15.99 Mango, Mini cross-body bag £15.99, Ankle cuff shoes £35.99 Mango.

Look 2

This checked midi skirt is very on trend and the shape is super flattering, the buckle detail really emphasises your waist. You could also wear it with a white shirt or a bright or pastel coloured top.

Zipped funnel neck jumper £55 M&S, Checked midi skirt £35 M&S, Art deco black onyx necklace £55 Gemondo, Leather tassel shoulder bag £89 M&S, Metallic toe ankle boots £89.99 Mango.

Look 3

Wearing bright colours projects an air of confidence even if you aren’t actually feeling that confident – perfect for returning to work! If you aren’t sure about this super bright jumper then consider trying a bright lipstick or a dark coloured jumper with a flash of colour on it like this one. The jeans are kick flares that finish above the ankle.

Cropped cable jumper £25 Topshop, MOTO cropped jeans £40 Topshop, Revlon colour burst lip stain £5.99 Boots, Round studded bag £28 Topshop, Ring loafers £49 Topshop.

Look 4

This is a really cute and comfy look.  The trousers have a black and blue stripe down the side which you can’t see in this image, but they are perfect for the athleisure trend which is hot for SS18.

Amour slogan jumper £29 Topshop, Check tapered trousers £35 Topshop, Organic hoop earrings £10 Topshop, Embellished mules £32 Topshop, Salem tote bag £24 Topshop.

Look 5

Here is a look that is comfortable but can easily be smartened up just by adding some heels. The tie waist on this shirt is a really interesting touch.

Tie-waist shirt £25.50 Dorothy Perkins, Relaxed mid rise jeans £29.50 M&S, T-bar hoop earrings £6 Accessorize, Lydia leather backpack £59 Accessorize, Adidas gazelle trainers £74.99 Office.

Look 6

Polka dots are the print to be wearing right now and they are so fun! Although this dress is quite long – because it’s a shirt dress it isn’t too dressy and you can dress it up or down depending on if you wear it with heels or trainers. I have a dress like this and it’s so versatile, you can add a belt or I like to put a bright red jumper over it. The cowboy boots have a really good height heel and Western is a massive trend for S/S18.

Polka dot shirt dress £35.99 Stradivarius, Tassel earrings £7.99 Stradivarius, Cowboy style belt £9.99 Stradivarius, Leather cowboy boots £89.99 Mango.

For anyone reading this who is heading back to work from maternity leave soon I really hope you enjoy looking for your new outfits and this gives you some good inspiration. I know how it feels going back to work and it’s hard. You have spent so long being ‘mummy’ you have forgotten what it’s like to be you. I was absolutely dreading coming back to work but now i’m back I really appreciate having a place where i can just be me again, I hope you feel the same way too.

thanks for reading,
